The Venezia Carnival is unique around the Word. Its tradition began since eleventh century.  In Venice has been most popular since eighteenth century. In this century got some aristocrats of different places. Through years this carnival was an option to relax and escape of that Napolion’s government.  One year the carnival was suspended due to Napolion was afraid that they did conspiracies. The festival was retaken in 1979 until now.

The carnival lasts ten days. The people disguise and go out to walk on the main streets of Venice. No matter if you are organized or not. You can go out to take photos. The costumes are seventieth century.  The reason for the masks was the aristocrats wore them to mix with the low social people. After the tour for the streets, there are a lot of parties to continue the carnival but these parties are expensive. They can cost around 500 euros.

The tourists don’t disguise but they buy funny masks to wear. The main motivation to go there are looking at the customs or taking photos with the people, in other cases the tourist involved in the carnival.

The main characters are the arlequin( this is a naïve person that critiqued  to the ambitious people, normally he is wearing colorful rags and white cap), pantalone (this characters represent Venetian merchant, rich and greedy. This is wearing strange clothes of a Turkish), polichinela (They always dressed in white and wearing a pointed hat) and among other funny characters.

The program for this carnival begins with “The flight of the angel”. There a Turkish acrobat person flies down from a high tower, this represent that the carnival has started. At night, one race on the grand canal of Venice, its name is Carnival on water. In the following day, the Festival of Marias on Plaza de San Marcos.
